Outer Banks Retro Geodesic Dome in Salvo, NC

Published: April 11, 2023 | North Carolina, Outer Banks

The Outer Banks of North Carolina receive thousands of tourists every year and while Summer is the busiest season, we visited this rental property in early Spring. The crowds were non-existent and the weather was spot on, so keep that in mind when booking your trip to the OBX.

We got to stay in this unique home during our trip to the Outer Banks. It had great amenities and a great location! This geodesic dome style house was very spacious inside. It had a huge living and kitchen/dining area and four individual sleeping spaces including two bedrooms with queen beds and two loft sleeping areas, one with a queen bed and one with a twin.

The entertainment space offers huge vaulted dome ceilings with a massive sectional sofa, an original (but not functional) 70’s green metal wood-burning fireplace, and a beautiful mural of beach colors that covers the entire wall behind the sofa. The space felt really warm and welcoming which was so nice, because we had been to a lot of “modern” homes recently which tend to feel more stiff and sterile.

Decor We Loved

The large sectional sofa was perfect for relaxing after a long day at the beach. Oh and the bikes! I can’t forget the bikes – the host has provided several bikes for you to use during your stay. There is a great paved walking path that follows the main road through the towns nearby. The bikes are perfect for that path.

If you want to spend the day at the beach, there is beach access for the neighborhood. Just turn right out of the driveway of the dome house and walk to the end of the street. You will see the beach entrance straight ahead to the slight right. It’s a brief walk through the dunes and you’re at the Atlantic Ocean.

While we technically visited during the off-season, some restaurants and shopping locations were still closed, but we managed to find a delicious pizza dinner at Lisa’s Pizzeria. This was only about a five minute drive from our location at the Geodesic Dome house in Salvo, NC. We then drove another five minutes in the other direction to a public access site to watch the sunset over the intercoastal waterway. It was the perfect little weekend at the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
