Historic Craftsman Cottage in Southern Pines, NC

Published: June 8, 2023 | North Carolina

If you are even remotely interested in golf then you have probably heard of Southern Pines or its neighbor Pinehurst, NC. These towns are located in what is known as the Sandhills region of North Carolina and it is a golfers paradise. With over forty golf courses in the region you won’t have a hard time finding one to spend a few hours at. It is said that the region is the “Home of American Golf” and that it is the exact location it was first brought to the US from Scotland.

All golfing aside, Southern Pines is a charming southern town with plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The homes in the area range from brand new contemporary designs to this beautiful history Craftsman bungalow that we had the pleasure of visiting.

Craftsman homes in and of themselves are charming, but this 800 square foot gem was beautifully maintained and decorated and at a ripe young age of 96 years old! The trademark front porch of the Craftsman style was perfect for morning coffee or just for enjoying the weather and neighborhood outdoor enthusiasts. In the brief time we were here we saw countless people walking by with their dogs, on their bikes, or out for a jog. It was truly peaceful!

The home is located only a couple blocks from all that the downtown area has to offer. You could walk or ride the bikes provided by the airbnb hosts. There were so many dining options, a ton of shopping, and, on certain nights, outdoor concerts available. You are also within walking distance of the Amtrak station that runs right through town so if you’re traveling in by train it’s a great option for a place to stay as well.

The home was decorated so tastefully with simple light colors. The furniture pieces were extremely comfortable and filled the rooms nicely. They have even provided a guitar for those of you who enjoy strumming a good tune. I imagine this would be fun to play on the front porch as well.

Decor We Loved

The kitchen was one of my favorite rooms in the house because of the history you could visibly see. The cast iron sink is original to the home – 1927 and the kitchen cabinets date back to 1940. When you stay here, make sure you open the kitchen drawers and look inside. You will see that they were once packing boxes for an old glass jar company.

This home is really the perfect stay for a couple, a guys trip, or a girls weekend. I can’t recommend this place enough. Upon recommendation of the host, we rode down to Red’s Corner – a Food Truck destination with a stationary outdoor bar and entertainment space. This was a real gem with a lot of options to please everyone in your party. We split a crispy fried chicken sandwich and some of the tastiest fries ever!
